On 21st April 2016 Amber hosted a party for her 30th Birthday with friends. Amber claims that Depp arrived two hours late, drunk and high. After everyone had left she let him know she was upset, he became angry. Amber claims that during their argument Depp threw a magnum bottle of champagne which missed her and hit the wall. She says he then grabbed her by the shoulders, pushed her on the bed, blocked the door, grabbed her hair.
Depp's response to the full accusation regarding his violence on this occasion is that he was simply 'reading a book'. This is similar to his defence in regard to the Boston flight in which he claimed he was just sketching quietly.
Depp does concede that he was in an aggravated mood after having a particularly disturbing meeting with his business managers and that he was smoking marajuana and drinking wine.
Depp also reverses Amber's claims that he was the one assaulting her and claims that it was in fact Amber who hit him. He presents a photograph of himself with a bruise. Unfortunately for Depp, the metadata shows that this photo is from 2015. An incident in which Amber admitted hitting Depp in defence of her sister.
There is very little contemporaneous evidence to support either parties claim in this instance other than the overall examples of Depp's violent and destructive behaviour throughout the relationship.
