On 22nd March 2015 an argument between Depp and Amber started because she found messages that showed Depp was continuing an affair with a woman named Rochelle. Nurse Debbie Lloyd sends a message the next day dated 23rd March to Dr Kipper confirming the argument was about Amber finding the messages.
Debbie Lloyd wrote, "Bad night last night. They got into it and it got violent again. I had to separate them and we are at 80 (Sweetzer Avenue) now. Jerry aware. I was there at 1.30 to give him a shot. He said she was trying to start. He took his meds and went to bed but then she found the texts to Rochelle and all hell broke loose!! Good thing he called or they would have hurt each other. We had to physically restrain both of them."
When questioned in the US trial, Debbie Lloyd effectively denied her own words claiming there was no physical violence even though she'd written that Depp and Amber had to be 'restrained or they would have hurt each other'.
Q: Do you remember witnessing any physical violence on that occasion?
Debbie: I saw Johnny push over one of Amber's clothing racks.
Q: Okay. No physical violence directed at anyone
Debbie: No.
As the argument escalates, Amber claims Depp started smashing things up. Depp throws down Ambers clothing racks. The morning following the incident, Ambers sister Whitney takes photos and sends them to Kevin Murphy to let them know what destruction to expect when they arrive to clean up.
Depp denies throwing the clothing racks down. In his UK testimony Depp says, "I did not do it".
Depp's claim that he did not throw the clothing rails down contradicts with Debbie Lloyds testimony. It also contradicts with Travis McGivern who testified in the US trial that "Depp went upstairs and rearranged her closet for her. Threw down probably every rack of clothing and shoes. Threw one (at least one) down the stairs."
During the altercation, Amber claims that at one point she is at the top of the stairs with Whitney and Depp. Amber claimed she was concerned that her sister was in danger of becoming involved in Depp's violence and she hit Depp in defence of her sister who she feared may be pushed or knocked down the stairs. Amber does not deny hitting Depp and takes responsibility for this.
